Greece is a highly “catholic friendly” country, with more than 200.000 Catholics permanently residing there and hundreds more arriving every summer to marry on one of the Aegean islands. Mykonos is clearly their preferred destination, as the gorgeous beaches with emerald sea and the quaint town that never sleeps provide the perfect backdrop for a memorable wedding.
The ceremony, which takes place at a local Catholic Church that is part of the worldwide Church and is led spiritually by the Pope, follows the same format as any other Catholic wedding. After the priest reads passages from the Bible about the significance of eternal unity, the couple exchanges vows of love and dedication. Weddings may be planned based on the church’s availability – it’s best to prepare ahead – and the couple may select from a variety of very cool ideas for how to commemorate their special day!
